Apple uncovers the M2

Apple uncovers the M2, but uses the crash and capabilities of the M1:

The M2 brings a completely redesigned MacBook Air and an updated 13-inch MacBook Pro to a new level of performance and energy-saving capabilities.

CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA Apple today announced the launch of the new generation of Apple silicon designed for Mac. Built on second-generation 5-nanometer technology, the M2 captures peak performance per watt M1 with an 18 percent faster CPU, a 35 percent more powerful GPU and a 40 percent faster Neural Engine.1 50 percent more memory bandwidth compared to the M1 and up to 24 GB faster integrated memory. All this brings the M2 - including new proprietary technology and greater efficiency - to a completely redesigned MacBook Air and an updated 13-inch MacBook Pro.

"M2 is launching second-generation M-series chips and more than just unique M1 features," said Johny Srouji, Apple's senior vice president of hardware technology. "With our tireless focus on energy-efficient performance, M2 delivers faster CPU, GPU and Neural Engine. And with higher memory bandwidth and new capabilities such as ProRes acceleration, M2 continues the rapid pace of innovation in Apple's Mac for Mac." .

Lots of transistors, lots of memory:

The M2 on-chip (SoC) system design is built on improved second-generation 5-nanometer technology and consists of 20 billion transistors - 25 percent more than the M1. Additional transistors enhance cross-chip functionality, including a memory controller that provides 100 GB / s of combined memory bandwidth - 50 percent more than the M1. And with up to 24 GB of fast integrated memory, the M2 can handle even larger and more complex workloads.
